Day 1:  Arrive in Hanga Roa
On arrival at Mataveri airport you will experience a traditional reception with flower necklaces. A short transfer takes you to your hotel. We recommend you to use the remainder of the day to visit the church of the village; among the various statues there you will find traditional Roman Catholic symbols together with indigenous ones. The artesanal market and the local museum are located next to the church. In the museum you can marvel at the reproductions of Rapa Nui artefacts; the originals were removed from the island. Overnight in Easter Island.
Day 2:  Anakena
Today you will learn more about the fascinating history of Rapa Nui. After leaving Hanga Roa, we drive to the south along the coastal road. You will have views of the Poike Peninsula and the whole coastline consisting of black volcanic rock. We will make our first stop in Vaihu to visit archaeological sites. On the road to the next stop we will pass several moais, lying along the street indicating the "Camino de los Moais", the "Trail of the Moais" on which they were maneuvered to their destinations.

At Ranu Ra-raku - the quarry where all moais were sculpted - we will have a pic-nic lunch, and afterwards we will start walking up the Ranu Raraku volcano. You certainly will be impressed by our next highlight -the restored giant Ahu Tongariki and its 15 moais, which are the largest worship site on the island. Continuing on our excursion, we will take a small break to visit two beaches, one of them being Ova-he, a small bay with a cave and nearly pink-colored sand; after another short drive we will reach Anakena with its white sandy beach and coconut palm trees inviting you to rest in the sand and swim in the warm Pacific water. Drive back to Hanga Roa. Overnight in Easter Island.

(Included meals: breakfast, box lunch)
Day 3:  Ceremonial Village Orongo
From Hanga Roa it is a 30 minute drive to the volcano Rano Kau with the ceremonial village Orongo. It is the ceremonial centre of the cult of the bird-man "Hombre Pajaro", which started when the "Short Ears" stopped building Moais. Your guide will explain this "new" culture of the island and show you famous petroglyph images. This site offers the view of three small islets in the Pacific: Motu Nui, Moto Kau, Moto Iti.

The afternoon excursion will take you to the Ahu Akivi site with its prominent 7 Moais. This site was one of the later constructions built, probably at a time when the statue cult was beginning to unravel. Ahu Akivi is unusual because it is neither at the coast nor are its Moais facing towards the land, unlike all the other ceremonial statues. Overnight in Easter Island.

(Included meals: breakfast)
Day 4:  Fly out from Hanga Roa
Transfer to airport in time to board the flight to Santiago.

(Included meals: breakfast)

........Your arrangements were wonderful.  Paulo in Santiago was terrific -- very helpful to have someone carting us to and from the airport and the orientation to Santiago was very informative and fun.  Both the Atacama and Easter Island were wonderful -- even better than we expected and our expectations were high.

Easter Island was the highlight among many great items on the trip.  Sabrina, our guide there, could not have been better.  Wonderful company, very informative and efficient.  The hotel there was fine -- I doubt there was anything we would have preferred... The views were so good that the somewhat less than ideal location is outweighed by the ability to be right on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific.

Thanks for everything.  We will definitely use your services again if we are planning something in South America.

Hi Laura Yes, we are back. The trip went very well. All the family loved Easter Island : it is a so quiet place, with low tourism pressure, nice landscape, nice weather (not too hot, not too cold), wonderful views on the Pacific Our guide was very interesting as well for explaining all about the Moais story but also to understand how the people live today on the Island. Can you imagine : 4,000 people, on a triangle of 20 km on each side, 4,000km away from Chile and Tahiti, with a plane not every day and a cargo boat once a month......

Regarding the hotel, the situation is wonderful : magnificent views on the ocean, very nice garden, very quiet. It is a little out of the town, so you need either to go by foot (20 mn for downtown), or use taxis, but it's OK. The only drawback was the not so warm behavior from the hotel management : we had some trouble with our toilets in the room, and they really have not been customer focused. Globally, staying 3 and 1/2 days on the island is OK We have been also very happy with our choice to mix guided visits and tours on our own, during which we rent a car and visited other sites by ourselves. I hope these comments will be useful for you. Best regards Isabelle

...Easter Island is awesome but very expensive. The Iorana Hotel has an unbelievable view but is very bare bones (no airconditioning) despite its $260/night price tag. Saying that, I don't think there's much choice on the Island as we were constantly told it was the nicest on the island. You should stress to people going to Easter Island that the airline strictly enforces its luggage, weight restriction. As we weren't going back to the hotel in Santiago before going on to Peru, we had no choice but to take all of our luggage with us. The airline charged us $75 bucks for excess weight but felt so bad about it that they upgraded us to business class. On the way off Easter Island, we loaded as much as we could into our carryon luggage and were able to get by without a charge......
